"The image most people have of lead exposure is of urban children eating lead paint chips in tenement buildings. The fact is that children in affluent neighborhoods where their families are renovating an older home are at great risk. It only takes lead dust the size of a sugar packet spread over 1/3 of a football field to pose a danger to children. Contractors often provide dangerous information, as do hardware store employees. Traditional home inspectors don't look for it, and home test kits have a high failure rate. The most accurate testing method is an inspection by a professional who can detect even microscopic amounts of lead."
