Agency Says Military Base Water Tainted

The sands are shifting under the feet of Marine Corps and Navy officials who kept the truth about deadly Benzene poisoning at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville NC off the radar, until last week. Officials now admit that Benzene concentrations were modified so that the numbers did not 'far exceed' safety limits imposed by federal regulations.

For a large number of Marines and family members, alive and dead, there was no question that something terrible had happened. Now North Carolina politicians Kay Hagan, Richard Burr and Brad Miller are pushing the Navy and Marines for answers to the abnormal number and type of medical problems and deaths. For years, the military blamed the problems with the base water supply on PCE (percholorethylene) from an off base  dry cleaner.
